Scripture:
Exodus 18:19-21 ESV
[19] Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall represent the people before God and bring their cases to God, [20] and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do. [21] Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.
Observation:
Mose’s father-in-law saw how heavy the burden was for Moses, and gave him some good advice. Leaving the main part of the responsibility in the hands of Moses, he suggested that Moses find some men who feared the LORD and would not take a bribe men who walked with integrity. To teach them the laws so that they could determine the easier cases. Not only did Moses teach them the law, but he also showed them how they must walk with GOD. These men had smaller groups and the harder decisions were still left up to Moses.
Application:
Almost 6 years ago I went to a discipleship program to be honest it changed my life. I would like to say I finished it and have never looked back, but that’s not true. I did however learn a lot of tools that I use today to help me understand the Bible and show others how to live for GOD. For example this S.O.A.P. You are currently reading is something I learned from there. My desire to show others how to form and build a relationship with the father came from there as well. The discipline to get into my Bible daily is another tool. Man to be honest with you they filled my toolbox. I only hope I can do the same for others. Of course, my attempts are on a much smaller scale. I am still doing my best to use what GOD gave me to build HIS kingdom.
Prayer:
Father, it’s so awesome to see how your plan unfolds in our lives. At this point, I have come to expect nothing less than absolutely amazing from you. You are the only one that I know that can take my failure and make it something good. This morning I pray that you would help us to not only see the need for discipleship but to dive into it as well as bring us those who want to have a relationship with you and are just not sure how. So that we can use what you have given us to show them how much you truly love them. We are but a vessel and you are the treasure that is contained inside let us pour you out on others and refill us so that we can do it over and over. You are my GOD, and you have more than enough to fill our cups to running over, and we only keep what we have by giving it away thank you so much for who you are. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
