Scripture:
Numbers 31:1-2 ESV
[1] The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, [2] “Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward, you shall be gathered to your people.”
[48] Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, came near to Moses [49] and said to Moses, “Your servants have counted the men of war who are under our command, and there is not a man missing from us.
Observation:
At the beginning of the chapter, we see the LORD YAHWEH giving Moses marching orders. It’s time to fight, and here’s what I want you to do. I don’t want you to send the whole army just send a thsound from each trib. I need to back up just a little bit. In vr:2 there is something said the GOD just reminded me of. This was the last time Moses would see the army fight afterward he would be gathered to his people. Now I want you to take notice of the way that is phrased. It does not say that Moses would die. Just like Aaron, he would be gathered to his people. Ok so now we can move forward. I fast-forwarded to my point not to skip anything important but for the sake of time. In vr:48-49 it was time to get an idea of loss and casualties on the side of GOD’s chosen people, and here is where I want to paint a picture. All the men of the Midianites had been killed and their land plundered only women and children were left and they were to be made slaves more than likely. However, not one man from the Israelites was missing not one casualty. They were all accounted for. The LORD had sent them and the mission was a gleaming success.
Application:
Looking at all this and drawing a picture from it I see that when GOD sends us to fight a battle HE has already prepared victory for us. Though the odds might not look like they are in our favor. We have GOD’s favor. Jesus asked his men as they were walking who the people thought he was. There were a few explanations given out and none were correct. But when Peter was asked who he thought Jesus was. He gave the correct answer. YOU ARE THE CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. There it is folks. GOD was standing right there with them. The statement that Jesus made is the reason I bring this up. HE said on this truth I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. HE was preparing an army. We are that army. GOD HIMSELF has sent us into battle, and even though the odds don’t look good we will come back with more than we left with. Because GOD is with us no one can stand against us. And this is our battle cry. There are men and women. Who are bound by the lies of the enemy. All they see is the problem. They can’t see the solution. You and I know the answer Jesus but fear of rejection keeps us from saying anything. GOD did NOT give us a spirit of fear. Step out speak truth in love and see the victory of the LORD. We are seed planters and harvesters of HIS crop. It’s time to knock the dust off the ol’ armor and fight the battle GOD has called us to. GOD is not done yet don’t give up or give in kick the gates down and let’s free our brothers and sisters, and best case is after the battle we will be gathered to our people.
Prayer:
Father, you are so amazing. Your plan is perfect. You have built an army out of dry bones. You have prepared our spirit for the battle. You have given us the armor for the fight, and you have given us the command to advance. We know that this is a war and you are bigger and better then any giant we may face. You are the LORD of heaven’s armies. We are not fighting for you Father we are fighting with you on our side. We know that we can not loose. You have given us victory. I just have to thank you Father because you have made my dry bones willing to fight again and I love you you are an absolutely amazing GOD. I being this prayer to you this morning in the mighty name of Jesus amen.
