Scripture:
1 Samuel 14:6-7 ESV
[6] Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the Lord will work for us, for nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few.” [7] And his armor-bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Do as you wish. Behold, I am with you heart and soul.”
Observation:
This scripture could be explained pretty easily. Jonathan’s faith was placed in the LORD GOD. The one who created heaven and earth. At this point he had seen GOD deliver Israel, not to mention all the stories he had been told. He knew that if the LORD wanted to HE could call down thunder and throw the enemy into confusion. So he approached with confidence. With the support of his armor-bearer, they developed a plan to make themselves visible and set out a way to know if GOD had given their enemy into their hands. Honestly, the plan was a little backward from what you might think. If they say come up here GOD has given them into our hands…but if they say wait and let us come to you then it is not our time.
Application:
Sometimes I wonder what faith really looks like. Is it sitting still and knowing that GOD is fighting for you? Or is it boldly advancing knowing that no matter what GOD has you right where HE wants you? I challenge you to think like this… it’s both GOD is going to accomplish HIS purpose. HE has given you victory whether it is through waiting or advancing the victory is HIS. Jonathan had the right way of looking at it. GOD is going to do what GOD is going to do. Now, am I going to be available for HIM to use me or am I going to go hide in the cleft of the rocks like the rest? We have the right to be confident in the LORD. HE is faithful, and HE will do what HE said HE will do. The only real question is…do you believe it…if you believe that HE has given you victory you will stand confident that victory is yours. No matter what that looks like. Waiting or advancing. The LORD is still fighting for YOU. Just be obedient in the moment and watch what he does. When we are confident in HIM we can’t go wrong. HIS promises are yes and amen. Do you believe that? If so fight. Fight by standing on HIS promises.
Prayer:
Father, you said that we would be the head and not the tail, you said we would be blessed going in and coming out, you said the fight was already won, you said that salvation was found in no other. Your word is the only truth we know, and we trust that what you said will happen. You said that you would provide, you said bring your tithe to the storehouse, and you would open up the windows of heaven. Father, the only thing that we can do is trust what you said. You said that signs and wonders would follow those who believed. Father, WE BELIEVE!!! We believe that you sent YOUR one and only son to the earth so that we could see how much you really love us. We believe that HE paid the price for our sins so that we could be in a relationship with you. We believe that HE was placed in a borrowed tomb for 3 days. We believe that you FATHER raised HIM back to life and now HE is at your right hand waiting to come back and gather YOUR church. Father, we believe your word, and that means we WILL see the captive set free, that means we will see the sick healed, that means no harm can come to us. Your hand is on us and our confidence is in you. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
