Overcomes lead others to overcome

Scripture:

Luke 6:39-42 ESV‬

[39] He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? [40] A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone, when he is fully trained, will be like his teacher. [41] Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? [42] How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

Observation:

In light of tonight’s movie, I wanted to talk about discipling or teaching others. It’s a concept that is all throughout the bible. In the old Testament, GOD tells us to teach HIS commandments to our children. In the New Testament, we see Jesus take on 12 men to teach them the ways of GOD, and when HE ascended to heaven, HE tells those men to go and do likewise. Here in Luke chapter 6, Jesus is preparing HIS men to do just that. However, HIS first bit of instructions come in the form of a parable or a question. “Can the blind lead the blind?”… “Will they not both fall into a pit?” I believe the point that the LORD is getting to is that… it’s important to be able to see where you are going. Especially if you are going to lead others. The next statement is very important, and we probably need to give it our full attention. If we don’t, a very important aspect of discipleship can get missed. Jesus wanted HIS men to know that HE was replicating or reproducing HIMSELF, and when HE was gone, they would need to do the same. However, there is a catch, and Jesus wanted to make sure HIS men knew it. We honestly talked about it just the other day in a SOAP. I believe the title was condemnation or observation. It’s the reason HE started this conversation out talking about the blind leading the blind. If you have stuff in your eye, you won’t be able to see to lead others. So remove what is blocking your vision, and then you will be able to see more clearly to lead those whom GOD places next to you. You have to overcome in order to show others how to overcome.

Application:

I think it’s important to take a good look at this and see how the principles apply to our lives. Discipleship is not a request. It’s a command. We see that in Matthew chapter 28 in what’s called the great commission. Where HE says GO  into all the world and make disciples teaching them to do what I have taught you. However, it’s important to know that we are reproducing ourselves, and the junk that is in our lives will be passed on if we are not careful. We need to make sure we are living lined with the word to the absolute best of our ability. Ore pet sins need to be dealt with. Confession and repentance are necessary. Our lives have to be in order. In the letters that Paul writes to Timothy. Paul explains the qualifications of an overseer. One of the first things he says is that an overseer must live above reproach. Our lives need to reflect Jesus. After all that who GOD is reproducing in us and through us. The more we conform to HIS image, the more we have to offer in a discipleship relationship. Searching HIS word for who HE has called us to be and becoming just that. If we are going to reproduce anything, let it be the one who gave HIS life for us. We have been made overcomers by the blood of the lamb, and that blood has given us a testimony. That testimony is that we have overcome the sin in our lives not given into it. Let’s lead others to the foot of the cross where we can all see clearly. Inventory your life if you have a plank remove it. So, it does not block your vision.

Prayer:

Father, we want to see clearly. We don’t want anything to block us from seeing where we are going. Please help us to keep our eyes on you. Because you are the light of the world, we do not want to walk around in darkness. You have built us to lead,  but if we have stuff that keeps us from leading in the right direction, we need to know so that we don’t stumble. If we have something to learn, help us learn it the easy way. So that we can lead the right way, it’s all about you Father it’s about your word. Not our opinion of your word but your word. We want to live that out, not redefine it to fit us. So please redesign us to fit inside the guardrails of your word. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus we pray amen.
