A promise to redeem.

Scripture:

Genesis 3:14-15 NKJV‬

[14] So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. [15] And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Observation:

As we draw closer to the day that the world has chosen to celebrate the birth of christ, my heart starts going over how it all happened. I believe that GOD unfolds HIS plan in the first few chapters of HIS holy word. Then, repeating it over and over throughout the entire Old Testament. Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6 is a great example. The reason I believe these scriptures were chosen this morning is not only because it’s drawing closer to the celebration of what the world calls the dirth of christ, but also because I got into a discussion about what that whole beginning looked like and a question was asked of me. The question was simple, and I believe it was asked out of innocence, but I wanted to make sure that it was answered with a clear and correct answer to the best of my ability. The question was this. Do you think that Jesus was there in the beginning with GOD when the fall of man happened? Do you think HE knew that HE would have to die for our sins before HE ever came to earth? The only answer to speak was yes. In the book of John, we find our answer. John 1 verse 1 says in the beginning was the word, and the word was GOD, and the word was with GOD, HE was with GOD in the beginning. There it is, Jesus was with GOD in the beginning. HE is the very word of GOD. So when GOD said the seed of the woman will crush your head and you will bruse HIS heel here in Genesis chapter 3, Jesus was fully aware of what had to happen. HE knew that HIS life would pay for your redemption. I want us to notice the difference in the blows delivered, though. A crushed head is much more devastating than a brused heel. You see, Jesus knew that HE would have to give HIS life, but it would not be the end of the story for HIM. It was a matter of authority. In fact, HE said in HIS own words… I have the authority to lay down my life, and I have the authority to take it up again. The promise of redemption was given before the world was created.

Application:

GOD stands outside for time, looking at the alpha and the omega the beginning and the end. HE saw the world and everyone in it before HE spoke the words, let there be light. HE saw the fall in the garden before HE placed Adam there. HE knew HE would have to send HIS son before the very first sin was committed. The Bible says that we were still sinners when christ died for us. GOD’S confidence in HIS plan has no question. HE will succeed. HE will produce a harvest every knee will bow and every tongue confess. Redemption was the plan from the start. GOD saw you and said I love them. In your cry of desperation, HE heard you before you took your very first breath. HE knew that sin would become so heavey that you would turn to HIM through HIS Son. There is no plan B) Jesus is coming back for a glorious church, one made perfect through the blood of christ. If you have a relationship with HIM, that’s you… you have not been abandoned or forgotten. Right now, Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father waiting to come get you. Advocating for you, going to bat for. It’s been the plan from the start, and you have always been a part of it. From the beginning. HE knew.

Prayer:

Father, I hope that what you have told me to speak this morning is fully understood. We know that it’s all bigger than us, and you are so far beyond our understanding because you are so much greater than our understanding. Help us to see things from your perspective. Help us to understand you better. The way you love and the way you see things, we are only a small part of what you are doing. But let that part have a positive impact on all those you have placed us around. You are good, and your plan is flawless. We just want to be on the right path to be used by you. Allow love and obedience to be our banner. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray amen.
