[6] Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. [7] Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. [8] For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. [9] And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. [10] Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
The letter to the Galatians is not very long. You can read through the 6 chapters pretty quickly. If all you are doing is looking for content to read. It was written by the apostle Paul to the church in Galatia to clear up some of the misguided individuals who had bought into the lie that was put forth by the Christian Jews who were saying that all believers had to follow the Mosaic law. This was just not a true statement, and Paul had to clear it up because it undermined the message of salvation by faith in Jesus. Paul is beginning to bring his little to a close here in chapter 6 and wants to be sure that those in Galatia know it would not be an easy road, but the journey will be worth it. The first thing HE addresses in verse 6 is the very same principle that is spoken about in Matthew chapter 28 verse 19. Go and make disciples, or also, ” Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.” This is, in a sense, what a pastor or honestly any good follower of Jesus does. Paul quickly moves on to how it looks to truly walk with GOD. He is not trying to fool anyone or pull the spiritual wool over anyone’s eyes. The phrase he uses is probably one of his most commonly used phrases, and honestly, you have heard me say it a lot as well because I believe it’s very important to pay attention to. DO NOT BE DECIVED.” I believe what Paul is saying in this statement can easily be missed, unfortunately, but can be detrimental to the walk of a follower of Christ. Moving forward, he brings more clarity to his statement. ” GOD will not be mocked. GOD will not be teased or laughed at in a scornful way. That’s the definition of the word mocked. But here is the key…” What so ever a man sows that shall he also reap. In other words, what you give you get. Paul wants his readers to know that it’s not a joke. It’s important to count the cost. Knowing that if you sow to… or feed your flesh. You will reap corruption. However, if you sow to or feed your spirit… what you will reap is eternal life through Christ Jesus. I believe the mockery that he speaks about is. Those who frustrate the grace of GOD. Now it’s time for the meat. Verses 9 and 10 are the foundation here, I believe… because Paul is pouring into these believers everything he has for them. He knows that the Mosaic law is not the answer, but throwing caution to the wind is not going to work either. His statement, ” Do not grow weary in well doing.” Is something that we should not miss. He knew it would be hard, and there would be times when they didn’t see results… BUT GOD… would bring a harvest at just the right time. Paul’s encouragement to the Galatians was to hold fast to the right way. It will always pay off.
I honestly have to tell you that as a follower of Jesus Christ, who owns and operates a business. It gets difficult sometimes. As you look and see everyone who is willing to compromise… flourish, and you are just sitting still waiting for GOD to open the floodgates. It’s easy to think we’ll if I were willing to do it the way they are things would be so much different. Listen, GOD is faithful. Holding on to HIS promises shows that you are too. Sowing to the flesh never gains anything. Greed equals corruption and decay. Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 6 is a verse I stand on. Without faith, it is impossible to please GOD. Do you believe that HE is who HE says HE is? Do you believe that HE is faithful? Then walk in faith. Notice I did not say stand in faith. Because we need to remember that faith is an action word. If we indeed believe. We are not going to sit still. We are going to move with purpose. Knowing that GOD’S timing is always perfect and HE is never late. So, let’s look at the word faith for a second. Faith is believing so strongly that you move forward even though there is no evidence of what you believe is to come. It’s a confidence in GOD that can not be shaken. Now let me tell you this pressing on is not an easy thing. But it’s not this world we press on to it’s the upward call of GOD. Growing tired of doing what is right when it looks like there are no benefits to it is common. But that’s not what we are called to do. Hold on to what is right and forget about what is wrong set that to the side and cling to GOD. Because HE will show up at just the right time and a harvest will be had. The enemy’s job is to get you to doubt what GOD’S word says so that you will compromise your beliefs. That way, he can go to GOD and accuse you. Saying stuff like… look, that’s one of yours… did you see that…. did you see what they did? Our job is to give him as little amo as possible. Hold tight to what is right. GOD’S harvest is coming.
Father, we know that you are faithful. We may not always see you moving. But you are, and we want our actions to show that we believe the promises you have given us. You are always right on time. We do not want our faith to fail. Let us continue to step out on the water and keep our eyes on you. We pray this morning that we will pay attention to you, the promis keeper. Your faithfulness is your banner. You can not lie. So is your word say it we are believing it and our actions…. well, we want them to say that very thing. We are not going to beg you to show up. Because we know that you already have. We have not caught up to you yet. That’s all. Guide our steps so that we stay on the right path so that we can catch up. Help us move forward without starving on the way. Your word tells us that you will never leave the righteous begging for bread, and the blood of your son has made us righteous. We depend on you for our everything, and we will not turn back from that. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus we pray amen.
