Scripture:
2 Corinthians 1:20-22 ESV
[20] For all the promises of God, find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. [21] And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, [22] and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee
Observation:
Paul is talking to the Corinthians it’s the second letter he has written that was found. There were actually 4 letters mentioned to the Corinthians. Only 2 of them were ever obtained and placed in the scripture. But that’s a rabbit trail. So Paul is making sure that this church knows that GOD will do what HE promised. HIS word will not return void, so to speak. If HE promised it to you, HE will get it to you. It’s HIM who establishes us in Christ. In John 6:44, John writes that no one can come to the Father unless he is drawn by HIM who sent me. Those words are written by Jesus HIMSELF. They confirm what is being said here. Once HE has drawn those whom HE has called to HIM, HE places an anointing on them and seals us with HIS Holy Spirit. Which is a guarantee of salvation.
Application:
I know my observation is short. That’s because I believe it’s hard to expound on that scripture. It says exactly what needs to be said. So let me put it into terms that we can apply to our lives by explaining how I can know Jesus. I moved to Oklahoma 16 years ago. Because my mom had grown sick with heart problems. I didn’t want to be halfway across the United States if something had happened. So I packed up and moved to Asher. Little did I know GOD had a plan to get ahold of my life. I was in the middle of a promising wrestling career and seemed to have life figured out… or at least that is how it looked. I had a lot going for me on the outside, but I was empty inside and didn’t know it. One day on the way to a wrestling show in Lawton, Oklahoma. I got a feeling that life could be so much different. That there was more to it than what I had. Now, I want to remind you that I had things going my way. I was on TV buying a house in extremely good shape. Had a nice truck, a beautiful family, a successful job, and was living my dream… yet I was empty. All the outside stuff could not fill the void I felt inside. Only Jesus could do that. The Holy Spirit was all over me. I had a desire to change, but I didn’t know how or why. So on that car ride, I did something as simple as changing my radio station from the cat to k-love. Little did I know that GOD was calling me out by name. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that if GOD says it, HE will establish it. I did not know that the music I was listening to were people singing GOD’S word. HE was drawing me closer to him with every song my walls started to fall. Before too long, I had a desire to go to church. Now, just like the rest of us when I started going, I thought I would be judged. I don’t look like your average Christian, and at that point, I didn’t know Jesus. I just knew I needed something different… something to fill the void. GOD was drawing me. Calling me by name. To make a long story even longer. I eventually gave my life to Christ, and it has never been the same sense. I tell you this story for a reason. Some of you already have a strong relationship with Jesus. But there may be someone reading this that is not sure of their position with HIM. I want you to know that GOD is drawing you to HIM. HE is calling you out by name, and all HE wants is a relationship with you. HE wants to know you intimately. Worts and all. If you can feel that calling, if you can hear HIS voice today is the day. Lay down your pride and run to the Father. Give HIM your mess, and HE will give you HIS message. A message of salvation, redemption, restoration, and reconciliation. Prayer:
Father, we have just read your word that explains that you are drawing us to you. I want to thank you for calling me out by name. You knew exactly what it would take to get my attention. You know the pride that would have to be knocked down and how that would have to happen. Your word did not return void and is still producing fruit. I pray right now that if there is anyone who does not know you and feels your calling they would answer that call right now. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
