[2] And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord according to all that his father Uzziah had done, except he did not enter the temple of the Lord. But the people still followed corrupt practices. [3] He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord and did much building on the wall of Ophel.
[6] So Jotham became mighty because he ordered his ways before the Lord his God.
Jotham was one of those kings who did what was right in the eyes of GOD. When reading about him, you get the impression that he was the kind of guy who would pray and seek counsel before he made decisions. I know I didn’t select a whole lot of verses this morning, and the reason for that is that my point is pretty easy to see. When we look at where Jotham’s might come from. The source is the decision to follow the LORD
What is it that makes a strong man? I’m going to be honest I spend about 6 hr a week, if not more, in the gym. I’m almost 50 years old, and I am physically pretty strong for my age. But physical strength and being mighty are 2 different things. My desire is to be strong in my walk with the LORD. When others look at me, I want to show meekness. Now, let’s drive that word out a little bit. Meekness is not weakness by any means. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The word really means power under control. So what does it take to be mighty? Well, I would say self-control. Ironically, that is the last fruit that is evidence of the Holy Spirit. Being physically strong does not mean you are spiritually mighty. Let’s take time today to work out our spiritual muscles. Reading HIS word and applying it to our lives feeding our spirit the godman protein.
Father, make us mighty in you. Help us to see what it takes to be truly mighty. We want to do what your word says to and allow it to make the decisions. To be GOD honoring men and women. To be spiritually mighty, even if that means we look physically weak because we don’t respond the way the world tells us to let our lives reflect You. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
