Stronger together

Scripture:

‭Exodus‬ ‭17:10‭-‬13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[10] So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. [11] Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. [12] But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. [13] And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

Observation:

Moses had given Joshua instructions to go fight Amalek. So Joshua put together some able-bodied men to fight with him. Moses, Aaron, and Hur would stand on the hilltop next to the battle so they could see it in real-time. I’m sure this was no small event. There were a lot of men that had left Egypt and this was the first real fight. Moses trusted GOD to give them victory, so as he stood on the hill he raised his hands in a V-shape his head, and as he did victory was given. However, as the battle continued. His hands got heavy, and although I’m sure he gave his best efforts his hand would slowly get lower and lower. When that happened those who were in the middle of a battle would fall as well. Moses needed help it was too much to do alone. Aaron and Hur saw that and found a solution by setting a rock under Moses for him to sit on and rest bringing his arms a little lower so they would be able to help him hold his hands up, and victory would continue.

Application:

Leadership is not an easy task, and we are not designed to do it alone. I want us to think about GOD HIMSELF. Although HE is one God, He has three parts. You see my point is that even  HE does not lead alone. We all need people in our lives to support and help us in times when we grow weary. Leadership is not an easy task. It takes dedication and perseverance, and even though you want to you won’t always be able to hold your hands up. Having good people around you to see when the load is too much is very important. It’s not a sign of weakness, in fact, it’s just the opposite. We are stronger together. When Jesus sent out HIS men he sent them out two by two. The Bible also says a 3 strand rope is not easily broken, and I know this next one refers to a wife but I believe it’s important to state that it’s not good for man to be alone. We need help, we are not meant to do this alone, and for you men maybe that help is a wife, and for you women maybe that help is a husband either there will be times in leadership when your hands will get heavy.

Prayer:

Father, we know that you have a plan, and you have placed us here for such a time as this. Right now we just want to be prepared for the times when our hands will get heavy, and even though we desire to hold them high in the air we won’t be able to. Father give us an Aaron and a Hur. Place men or women around us to hold us up when it’s just too much and our strength is failing. I know that you have done this already in the ministries that you have set in front of me, and I thank you for men like Tyler, Chris, and Jon, who continue to hold me up in prayer and make sure my arms don’t drop. We know that you have already given us victory. We just want to be obedient to what you have called us to no matter whether our arms get tired or not. Continue to mold us and shape us as leaders. Show us examples in your words and give us the desire to know your words more…..because inside your words is a great picture of your face. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
