Scripture:
Leviticus 14:19-20 ESV
[19] The priest shall offer the sin offering, to make atonement for him who is to be cleansed from his uncleanness. And afterward, he shall kill the burnt offering. [20] And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean.
Observation:
I am not a guy that the world would consider smart I don’t have a degree in anything but hard knocks, so I’m going to do my best to draw you a picture of what is going on here. The priest was the only one who could pronounce someone clean, and once he made that determination. He had some responsibilities that he needed to perform one of these responsibilities was to offer up a sacrifice to atone for the unclean person before atonement. This could only be done by a priest. There was no other way.
Application:
Drawing a line between the Old Testament and the New Testament is an important part of Bible study. Sometimes that’s not easily done. The priest is a picture of Jesus and the sacrifice that he offered on the altar is much like the sacrifice that Jesus offered on the cross HE was the only one who could do it. Sometimes I would like to think that I am good enough to offer my own sacrifices, but Jesus is the only one. HE paid the ultimate price so that I could be clean. Without HIS sacrifice, we would still be offering up bulls and goats on the altar. The sacrificial system is only a picture of what Jesus did on the cross.HE gave HIS life so that you could be clean. HE put HIS blood on your right ear right thumb and right toe so that you could hear for GOD do what HE asks and go make disciples. Now what you do with that knowledge is up to you but now that you know it you are responsible for what you do with it Jesus made a way for you to stand in the presence of the Almighty GOD clean-washed by the blood of the lamb. If this is all new information to you and you have never heard the gospel put like that just know that GOD looked through time and saw you. HE put together this moment for you to read and understand what HE was willing to go through to show HIS love for you. HE endured the cross so that you could have a way to be clean and stand before HIM HE loves you so much that HE gave HIS one and only son in exchange for for you. HE wants you, HE has a plan for you, and HE wants a relationship with YOU. If that is you and you have never asked Jesus to wash you clean, the Bible says today is the day of salvation. Step into Jesus and away from the things that are destroying your life. Prayer:
Father, only you can make a way where it seems hopeless. You paid the ultimate price so that you could have a relationship with us. Let us not look at that lightly. Father, I want to pray that if there is someone reading this who does not know you you would open the door to their heart and they would ask you to be their LORD to make them clean to change their lives to be their savior. I know that you have a plan for everyone reading this so I pray that you put that plan into action right now. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray amen.
