[7] The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; [8] the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; [9] the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. [10] More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. [11] Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. [12] Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. [13] Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. [14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
David was in a moment of great worship. His love for the LORD was being poured out in songs and poems. As he was taking a look at how GOD’s law had kept him safe from destruction. He couldn’t help but see the wisdom in it. He knew if a simple shepherd boy could see how the father had made his life so amazing. Paying attention to the law of GOD could do the same for anyone. David wanted everyone to know that GOD has more than proven HIMSELF in his life by standing steadfast on the precepts of the LORD David had a life beyond his wildest dreams. His heart was full and his eyes were open to the truth. When fear of the LORD is mentioned it’s not a fear like…oh no HE is going to strike me dead. The fear that is being spoken about by David is more of respectful obedience like that from a son to a father. A reverence to who HE is and the power HE has. That reverence that David has brought him to this point in life where he is looking back at where GOD had brought him from, and in complete amazement. The commandments had kept David out of the weeds. Following GOD took him from the pasture to the Palace, and brought him to a place where the throne would be established in his family line forever.
Who doesn’t want a story like that? If you think it’s not possible. You have already set yourself to fail. None of us are flawless David made mistakes, and when he did he ran to GOD, not from HIM. So let me tell you a story. 6 or 7 years ago I was not in the same place I am now. I believe the catalyst for the change I am experiencing is my love for GOD’s word and the desire for it to decide the course of my life. I’m telling you it has changed my life. I got started on this journey 14 years ago. That’s when GOD found me where I was trying to hide from HIM. Just like Adam in the garden, my sin had brought so much shame. I thought I was not able to be saved. A lot of struggle has happened in my life since that day, and I did not submit wholeheartedly right away. But let me tell you in the past several years something has changed, and the only thing I can attribute it to is falling in love with Jesus. I found HIM in the pages of the bible. John 1:1 starts by saying in the beginning was the word and the word was GOD and the word was with GOD HE was with GOD in the beginning. That HE is Jesus…Jesus is GOD’s word HE is the word of creation when GOD spoke at creation HE said Jesus and things started to happen. Think about it, Jesus said HIMSELF I am the light of the world. I’m not trying to get too deep on you I just want you to know that if you fall in love with GOD’s word make it a daily part of your life. Things will change. You can go from the sheep pastor to the Palace. I’m not saying there won’t be struggles. But what I am saying is that, in the end, you will look back and see that GOD’s way has brought you to a life of amazement.
Father, thank you. I feel like that’s all I can say. You have kept us safe from ourselves and gotten us through times we didn’t think we could get through. You never cease to bring us all and wonder. Falling in love with you and the love you have for me has completely changed my life. I don’t know where I would be without you but I know it wouldn’t be where I’m at today. May I never lose the love I have today. Let me never forget the sheep pasture or the wilderness or Egypt. You have brought us out of bondage into the marvelous light. For that I am so very grateful. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
