The ground is level at the foot of the cross

Scripture:

‭Psalm 62:9-12 ESV‬‬

[9] Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. [10] Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. [11] Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, [12] and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.

Observation:

David is responsible for most of the book of Psalms.

As you read it and study it. You see how it’s honestly a prayer journal. You see how he spent time crying out to GOD through worship. The last 4 verses of Psalms 62 let us know how David saw his position in life. He talks about people who don’t have much. Most kings would refer to them as peasants. But David’s new was a little different. HE calls them people who don’t have a lot, or as he stated it of low estate. His reference to the rich is the same in some effect. Saying they are delusional. I see the purpose of these statements. It’s brought to light in his next verse. They are both the same… a breath. David has a wonderful way of telling us where our focus should be. He says, “Don’t look to what man says about you or set your hopes on robbery as your wealth increases. Don’t set your heart to that. There is no power in money. GOD is all powerful. In 4 verses, King David comes to the same conclusion his son Solomon comes to in Ecclesiastes. Possessions don’t matter what matters is where you stand with GOD

Application:

It’s all going to burn up. I just. Recently thought about buying another motorcycle. It was nice to. All pearl white with black accents loud pipes man it felt good to wrap my hand around the throttle and pull it back. I have thought about it for a while now. As I was test driving it one statement came to mind… status symbol. This life and what we have is not what matters. If you have a little or if you have a lot. GOD wants to use you. If you are rich or if you are poor. GOD wants to use you. A few years ago, I took my daughter to Oklahoma City. We stopped for lunch, and I saw a woman who was sitting in a booth at the place we stopped. She was dirty and had a bag sitting next to her. She was clearly homeless. She didn’t have any food in front of her. Only a half empty cup of water. She wouldn’t even look up. The Holy Spirit said talk to her. So, I pulled the cash out of my wallet to open the door with it. My discovery after giving her the money… that she graciously took was that the reason she was not looking up was because she had a bible under the table. She was reading GOD’s living word. That woman was more of a blessing to me than I could ever be to her. We talked for a few minutes, and we prayed a blessing over each other, then parted ways. I left the place different. That woman was truly a blessing to me. Now listen, I have been homeless more than once, so I have a heart for homeless people. It’s not always by choice that we end up there, and you honestly never know you may just be entertaining an angle sent by the LORD. My point is this. Not one of us is better than the other. If you have a motorcycle or a big house. None of that matters what matters is what you have done for the kingdom. You can have everything you ever wanted and still be empty inside. All your possessions will be left behind to rust. The only thing you will take with you is what you did with the knowledge of JEESUS CHRIST. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. The rich… the poor… the haves… and the have nots… all that matters are… the who so evers… who so ever believes in HIM shall not parish but have ever lasting life.

Prayer:

Father, your plan… I’m speechless. The path is not the same for all of us. But the door is. You have set all on the path to Jesus. Let us not get distracted by the things of this world. In 2nd Timothy, you tell us a good soldier does not get caught up by these things because he is focused on you. I’m asking you to allow us to stay focused. You look at all of us as adopted…chosen…a royal priesthood. The ground is level, and your marching orders the same… go make disciples. Whether you have or have not. We want to do just that, Father. Lead us to the ones you have called by name. Our desire is to please you. Not one thing we have here will go with us. When the time is up, all we will have left is you. Please use our devotion to you to change the lives of those you have placed next to us. You are truly ALL I HAVE, and I love you. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus I pray amen.
