Pray about it
Pray about what he reveals to you during this time in His Word.
How to use the S.O.A.P. Method
Scripture
Before you start, spend some time praying. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and help you understand the words you’re about to read. Write down the parts of the Bible that stood out to you. Be specific and don’t write too much. Writing out Scripture can make it more engaging, but it’s important to be committed, and not worried about how your handwriting looks.
Observation
Pay attention to repeating words, and if there are any words you don’t understand, look them up. Describe what’s happening in the text and around it.
- What is God showing you through this passage?
- Is He telling you something about Himself?
- Does this passage relate to your identity in Christ?
- Are there any important truths?
Finish this section with a quick summary of the one thing God is saying to you through this Scripture. Make sure it aligns with the rest of the Bible.
Application
Make it personal and be sensitive to the Spirit. Remember, this is your time with God. Be honest with Him and yourself. How does what you observed impact your life? Does God have any instructions for you today?
Prayer
Prayer is a conversation with God. As you pray, give God time to speak to your heart. This allows Him to confirm what He revealed to you through Scripture. Pray specifically about what you learned today. Finally, write out your prayer.
